Recruitment:
Women Unlimited has been recruiting, training, and placing women in trade, technical, and transportation careers since 1988. We now offer services to minorities and displaced workers as well. We work carefully to make the best referral for every job.
The Flying Hammer, our bi-monthly newsletter, reaches over 1,100 workers and 150 agencies, and is the ideal place for your current listings. We can also post your openings on our website. There are no fees for these services, although donations are aways welcomed! Contact the Support Specialist at 800-281-5259 to become part of our JobBank.
Technical Assistance:
Our experienced staff can provide technical assistance in the following areas: EEO/AA, OSHA 10, Hand and Power Tool training, human resources policies and procedures, sexual harassment awareness training, and recruitment and retention strategies. Call us - if we can't help, we'll find someone who will.
On-The-Job Training (OJT):
Women Unlimited has contracted with the Federal Highway Administration (via the Maine Department of Transportation) to provide OJT monitoring services statewide. Please contact the OJT Administrative Coordinator Jen Lerette for more information.

Contractor Highlight: Pike Industries
--It began 136 years ago: Luther M. Pike founded "Pike's Improved Concrete Company" at the age of 21. Years later, it would become known as "Pike Industries". Mr. Pike's dedication and hard work has been carried on through five generations. What began with tree crews of ten men with horses and wagons has become a thriving company operating 12 gravel pits, 11 crushing facilities, and 41 asphalt plants throughout Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
--Women Unlimited is pleased to work in conjunction with Pike Industries for the On-The-Job Training program. Together, we strive to give women and minorities the opportunit to learn and become skilled in construction fields. Pike has trained many OJTs in classifications such as Foreperson, Quality Control Technician, and Construction Worker (Highway).
--Trainees have often stated that they feel Pike offers great training and safety instruction. Additionally, they believe that the Pike working ethic and environment is excellent, and this makes them feel part of the team.
--It's no wonder that with comments such as this from their workers that Pike has maintained such a successful company for over a hundred years. Pike's unwavering dedication to its employees, clients, and the environment has made them a leader in the construction industry. Undoubtedly, their achievements and perseverance will continue to keep them at the top of the (concrete) heap! |
