Women Unlimited reaches out to incarcerated people who are interested in careers in trades, transportation, and technology.

We bring certified instructors into prisons teaching Construction Math, Blueprint Reading, and Hand and Power Tools introductory courses.

During the summer of 2008, we are bringing in our Construction Bootcamp course. We will hold two sessions: in each, students will learn the subjects mention above, plus OSHA 10 (a workplace safety course), and job readiness skills (interviewing, completing applications).

To be considered for employment through Women Unlimited after your release, complete a JobBank application and return it to us. If you can't download the form, just write us and we will be glad to send one to you. Please let us know what your post-release contact information will be as soon as you find out.

We often partner with Volunteers of America in our efforts.

“This class has opened a door into my life I never thought I would be able to go through. I have done some things in my life I am not proud of. This class has given me the confidence and courage to leave prison with my head held high.”

~ Ernestine, Prison Class Participant

Federal Bonding Program

Ex-offenders, including anyone with a record of arrest, conviction or imprisonment, and anyone who has ever been on probation or parole, are at-risk job applicants. Failure to become employed after release is a major factor contributing to the high rate of recidivism.

In 1966, the U.S. Department of Labor created the Federal Bonding Program. It is an employer job-hire incentive that guarantees the job honesty of at-risk job seekers. Federal financing of insurance, issued free-of-charge to employers, enables the delivery of bonding services as a unique job placement tool to assist ex-offenders. So if your record is holding you back, let prospective employers know about this program!

The program is administered locally through the Maine Department of Labor - Women Unlimited is not connected with this program, and can not offer any further information.
